    Aleksandar Markovic (Alex) is an Analyst in the Real Estate Development division of Housing on Merit. In this role, he is responsible for providing research support, financial analyses and acquisition due diligence for the company’s Vice President of Real Estate Development. Alex has experience evaluating a variety of property types, including multifamily, commercial, mixed-use, and development assets. Prior to his career in real estate, Alex worked as a Project Manager in the field of international business development. During this time, he helped clients obtain investor visas, such as E1, E2, L1, H1B, and EB5. Academically, Alex earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, with studies focused on finance and marketing. While attending, he was awarded numerous scholarships, graduating with honors.

  • Leticia Huerta

    Leticia was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. with family at a young age.  She moved to San Diego in the late 90’s and enrolled at San Diego State University, where she obtained a Bachelors in Social Work. In addition to ample experience working with youth, she has also spent time volunteering in the community by helping provide meals for unhoused residents as well as volunteering for Mamas Kitchen and delivering meals to homebound individuals battling chronic illnesses.  She most recently worked in a retirement community for the past 15 years; listening to the many life experiences and stories from residents was extremely valuable and rewarding for her.  She decided to join HOM in order to work directly with underserved communities in San Diego and help bridge access to services due to language barriers.   When she isn’t working, Leticia enjoys traveling and leaning the history of new places.

    Carmen Asturias is a Resident Service Coordinator at Springville Seniors. Her personal goal as such is to provide a pleasant, safe and healthy environment for the Springville family. Her mission is to connect individuals with enriching activities that promote physical wellness, enjoyable mental ventures, and entertaining social events for the enrichment in life.

    Her Degree in Radio/TV Communications, combined with her passion and expertise for fitness has giving her the opportunity to play an influential role through the radio waves across the glove to one on one as fitness personal trainer. Carmen has been involved in the community creating entertainment activities, fashion shows, arts, drama, dance and exercise activities while raising her children which is her greatest pride. Her ability to communicate with the heart has earned her awards in improvisation speech. Her Motto: “Love is a Verb” and she uses that name when participating in the Great Cycle Challenge which unites her joy of bike riding with her desire to help others in need. She loves nature and spending time alone as much as being involved in social events.

    Jodi Braden is the Director of Compliance for Housing on Merit. With over fifteen years of housing experience, Jodi has overseen both market rate and affordable properties across the Northeast.   Having held Executive positions in National Companies, Jodi is well versed in new construction, lease-up, historical rehabs, and property management operations for both market rate and affordable housing.   Jodi’s has extensive experience with multiple programs that include LIHTC, HUD, CDBG, and Bond Financing.  Jodi holds a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Pittsburgh and is H.C.C.P certified in tax credit compliance.

    Prior to joining Housing on Merit, Veronica worked in the apparel industry for more than 10 years.  Seeking a more hands-on-approach and community-based career, she found herself going back to school and discovering a passion for sociology and the non-profit sector.  Veronica is currently pursuing a degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Mt. San Antonio College.  In addition to her work at HOM, Veronica works with a non-profit organization that helps independent and minimally-assisted adults with special needs find employment and volunteer opportunities   When not working, you can find Veronica and her husband, Rick, indulging their 5 year old daughter in the magic of Disneyland, the majesty of Dodger Stadium, and the beauty that the City of Los Angeles has to offer.

    Julia George provides support for Housing on Merit’s Executive Director ensuring administrative functions run smoothly and efficiently. Along with the work at Housing on Merit, she also serves on the board of directors for the Mustard Seed Project. Julia is passionate about addressing the homeless epidemic that the United States of America is currently experiencing. Through this passion, she trains college students to work one-on-one with individuals experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness to navigate local services, write resumes, complete applications, and be a source of companionship. Additionally, Julia connects various groups of college students to local organizations to help with their services and have conversations with individuals. Julia graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Minor in English. When not working, Julia enjoys reading, wakeboarding, surfing, snowboarding, skating, and going to the beach with her friends.

    David Cottingham is the Vice President of Real Estate Development for Housing on Merit. With over fifteen years of experience, David has served as a real estate portfolio, finance, and risk management executive representing private, local, and federal government entities, including the Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Government Accountability Office, and the U.S. Department of State.  He has expertise in the development and management of commercial real estate portfolios from strategic development through completion with over $25B in completed projects.

    David is a recognized Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and active participant in both the Building Industry Association and the Commercial Real Estate Developers Association.  He is an associate of the Project Management Institute, the Urban Land Institute, and the Appraisal Institute.  As a certified general appraiser, David has valuated over 100,000 properties, including numerous special use properties, such as power plants, sewer and water treatment plants, natural gas pipelines, and communications towers, as well as traditional commercial and residential properties.

    He received his Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University in Human Resource Development and a Master of Professional Studies in Real Estate Finance from Georgetown University. In 2019, David completed the Certification of Negotiations Mastery program at the Harvard University Business School.

    Michael D. Ravitch is a partner at Grossberg, Yochelson, Fox & Beyda, LLP.  Mr. Ravitch concentrates his practice among areas of acquisition, disposition, financing and leasing of real property as well as the preparation of joint venture documents.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with high distinction from The Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctor degree with honors from The George Washington University Law School. Mr. Ravitch was a Member of The George Washington University Law School Law Review and The Order of the Coif.  He was also a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Pennsylvania from 1990 until 1995.  Mr. Ravitch came to Grossberg, Yochelson, Fox & Beyda as a law clerk while in law school, and has been with the firm ever since.  Mr. Ravitch advises numerous individuals and real estate companies on contractual, business and management issues, and has lectured on various real estate related topics from time to time over the years.

    Suzanne Hollander is a real estate attorney, speaker, professor, broker and voice for property rights, real estate, housing and infrastructure development.  The U.S. Department of State appointed Suzanne to its Fulbright Specialist Roster as an Expert in Real Estate.  In 2019, Suzanne was awarded U.S. Federal Funds to travel to Peru and investigate Chinese Investment in Real Estate and Infrastructure in Latin America.  Suzanne has researched affordable housing policy and demand in Peru and visited “squatter cities” in need of housing solutions in Peru, Brazil and throughout Latin America.

     

    Suzanne is a Professor of Real Estate Law at Florida International University (“FIU”) Hollo School of Real Estate and the Program Director of Professional Development in FIU’s University-wide Office to Advance Women Equity & Diversity (AWED).  Commercial Real Estate Women Network awarded Suzanne its Global Impact Award for Career Advancement for Women in 2018 and Globestreet recognized Suzanne as a Woman of Influence in Commercial Real Estate – Mentor Category 2019. Suzanne is appointed to the National Diversity and Inclusion Task Force of Commercial Real Estate Women.  In Miami, Suzanne is a Board Member of CREW Miami and 100 Women in Finance.

     

    Suzanne is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, where she was awarded a full tuition academic scholarship in honor of the first women dean of the law school.

    Andrew Lamming is a partner with the nationally recognized law firm, Rutan & Tucker, LLP, where he handles a wide range of real estate transactional matters with an emphasis on low-income housing developments.  Andrew has represented a variety of for-profit and non-profit developers in the acquisition, construction, rehabilitation and disposition of housing projects throughout the United States.

     

    Andrew earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School.
