Scott Alter is the Owner and Co-founder of Standard Companies, a full-service investment and asset management firm focused on multi-family housing opportunities. Mr. Alter manages all aspects of investments, asset management, construction, financial structuring, and corporate strategy for Standard Communities, the affordable housing division of Standard Companies. With more than 12,000 apartment units – of which more than 8,600 are affordable, Standard is one of the 50 largest affordable housing owners in the nation, according to Affordable Housing Finance. Since 2008, Standard has completed more than $1.7 billion of affordable/workforce housing acquisitions and rehabilitations, including 28 separate LIHTC transactions covering more than 5,000 units.

Mr. Alter has played an integral role in the acquisition, management, disposition and financing of real estate & energy transactions with capitalization in excess of $5 billion over the last 20 years. Prior to co-founding Standard Companies, Mr. Alter was an investment professional at Stockbridge Real Estate Funds, a $2.7 billion real estate opportunity fund.  Mr. Alter was responsible for Stockbridge’s acquisitions and portfolio management analytical team, including performance of individual assets and overall fund returns.  Prior to joining Stockbridge, Mr. Alter worked as a Financial Analyst in Merill Lynch & Company’s real estate, hospitality, and leisure investment banking division.  Additionally, Mr. Alter serves on the board of the One Percent Foundation, an organization dedicated to addressing persistent global challenges by building a broad-based movement of next generation philanthropists.  Mr. Alter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
